Our Round-The-World Trip

Below are brief overviews of the volunteer and cultural exchange projects we participated in during our year-long journey. Remember to visit our Travelogue to read our stories.

Assisting Liberian Refugees in Ghana

Teaching Liberian Refugees in Ghana

We had the opportunity to work with children and adults, teaching English, math, science and computers. Most of the children didn't go to a formal school, as school fees are outrageously high and most adults cannot afford them, so the we may be teaching classes to them during the day, and in the late afternoon or early evening, we will be tutoring and or helping with the homework assignments for the children who can afford to go to school.

Designers Without Borders in Uganda

Designers Without Borders

Designers Without Borders (DWB) is the world's first non-profit 501(c)(3) organization expressly dedicated to disseminating design through development. A voluntary consortium of designers and design educators, DWB is dedicated to helping under-resourced institutions of the developing world meet their communication design needs. Through DWB we taught at the Mwereerwe Secondary School in Bombo, Uganda and worked on organic farming projects.

Teaching English in China

Teaching English in China

We taught English at Jianwen University in the Shandong Province of China for two months.

Education is regarded as being extremely important in China so children are sent from local villages into cities to be schooled.

Servas International
