Hvar Island

| | Comments (6)

Hvar Island is reportedly the sunniest spot in Croatia--2724 hours of sunshine per year. That was part of the reason we decided to come here, we were getting a little tired of clouds and rain. Hvar didn't disappoint. Even though it was drizzling a bit when we arrived on the boat (enough so that the guestroom hawkers that met the boat were trying to convince us that it was no weather to camp in and we should therefore stay at their place), the weather today is absolutely beautiful. We feel like we're in Paradise here! Our camp ground is in the tiny village of Milna, about 3 km from Hvar town. We took a crowded bus there yesterday (it was so full that we thought we were going to have to get out and push it up the hill) without knowing whether it was even open. Luckily it is--it's perfect. We have a gorgeous view of the ocean right from our tent. Today we hiked along the rocks by the ocean and through rosemary bushes back to Hvar town to take care of some errands. Tomorrow we plan on spending all day on the beach (hopefully the weather will cooperate). We're not sure of our plans after this. Unfortunately it's not going to work out to meet Michael's brother in Greece or in Turkey, so we'll just have to see.

Sorry there aren't any photos yet--the connection is way too slow here and the other day they wouldn't let us because of security reasons. We'll keep trying though, bye for now!

Dear M&M,
It's fun following your adventures on your website!! Glad you're having such a wonderful time. Dawn's grandfather died and D&D are coming home Thursday. Dave is staying until Oct 11 and might be going to Vermont with us on the 8th,9th and 10th. We are staying in a condo in Killington. I told David he can sit in the back seat and relive old memories of past vacations trying to find a place to stay. What fun!! Well, keep us posted on your travels. We are very happy for you--what a great start to a lifelong adventure. Love, Mom

Hey guys. I'm having a ton of fun following your adventures! One of the best things I remember about Croatia is the quality of light there. I swear, every picture I took came out spectacular -the light was perfectly diffused so it was soft for landscapes and portraits. I'll get off my dorky photo soapbox now :). Anyway, take lots of photos and if you get a chance, go to Dubrovnik and take a photo from the city walls - looking over the ocean, is the best light ever. Eat lots of pastries in Split and avoid sketchy guest houses...oh the stories to tell from there :). Have fun!

Hey Guys, was reading your travelouge and got panicked when I read your ipod was (briefly) missing. Guess I am attatced to material things! Shame on me! I am happy you found it though. I am stuck at home this week (meaning no gym, no playgroups, etc...) as the kids (yes both of them) are sick. Kate had a temp of 102 on Sunday and was completely miserable. They both have coughs and runny noses now...but are on the mend. I can escape by reading your adventures!!!
Love you,
Tinney

Hey you two, wherever you are today!
Can you believe it is the 1st of October already?
Hopefully you still have plenty of sunshine - and also had clear skies for the beautiful full moon 2 days ago. The seasons are definitely changing here at Harbin - it is getting quite cold at night and definitely fleece weather in the morning when I come down the hill (thanks for the gray fleece, Meg!!) Thanks also for letting us "babysit" your beautiful wall hangings - they look great on the white dome walls.
And a third thank you - for sharing your travel diaries with all of us.
We love you - Sanna/Mama and David

Eh iPod, how are you!!!
How is Europe treating you. I’m sure your having a blast traveling across Europe. How was the French electricity? Not to weak, enough voltage for you? What did you think of Austria in the back of Mike backpack? I heard Mike “supposedly” forgot to upload some songs before he left Austria, sound like user error to me.

How exciting you got to spend a whole nite in that Croatian restaurant. Man I can’t wait to hear about your wild nite. I can just see it now a huge party to your music.

Well I hope your scroll wheel clean is clean and battery is well charged, hopefully all that European power is not giving you the shits.
